Winter Arts Review 2010 – WA Art Gallery: Piccinini

Although we did not get to speak with Piccinini herself, we did speak with someone who knows her work extremely well – Stephano Carboni — Art Director of the West Australian Art Gallery. Stephano describes Piccinnini as one of the most prominent artists in Australia and tells us why he was so keen to have her work exhbited in Perth. Her works are sculptures, he says, where she asks questions and science and biology and more specifically, where the human race is going. In this interview, Carboni describes the potential for every human being to be an artist and express themselves in an artistic manner, adding that this is possible as long as they have passion. He leaves us with profound thoughts about art being the fabric of life and why it is a quintessential part of communities existence.
