Jet Airways Makes Indian Aviation History in 2011

Jet Airways – India is an international airline that has its headquarters in Mumbai. Their website boasts 75 destinations both domestically and abroad with “each connected every five minutes.” With their first commercial flight taking place in 1993, the airline is still considered “young.”

Since that first flight, they have been very aggressive in their need to expand and make their services and itineraries better. Jet Airways is known worldwide as being a rapidly growing airline. The company serves fifty one locations inside of India and twenty four locations around the world. Here’s some more information about this company.

This company consists of two subordinate passenger carrier airlines: Jet Airways Konnect and JetLite. Jet Airways Konnect was formed to meet the needs of a very specific market within the country of India. You’ll see that Konnect serves seven major cities within the country and a few that are beyond the borders as well.

This particular subsidiary was created specifically to cater to the market of people who have lower budget. JetLite (which was bought by the larger company early in 2007) caters to almost the same market but their accommodations are slightly higher priced. Still, it does not cater to the first class flying crowd. JetLite serves twenty-seven domestic destinations and one international destination: Kathmandu. The company, with both subsidiaries, flies almost three hundred flights every day. Jet Airways services over seventy total destinations, including both domestic and international operations. The companies overseas flights takes the airlines to 19 countries in southern Africa, Europe, Asia and North America.

Due to the recent recessionary years, long-haul flights using the Boeing 777 have been severely curtailed, if not stopped altogether. The 777 Extended Range Boeing airliner is perfect for transatlantic crossings. Flights to North America are now on the Airbus A330 because of financial reasons. Even though flights to a handful of destinations were halted, plans for resumption to a few are scheduled for later in 2011. A new service that will add more convenience for air travelers was announced in June of 2011 by Jet Airways. With this latest effort, Mobile Ticketing Solution is the integration of the newest mobile technology into air ticket purchases. Being able to use a mobile phone to purchase tickets and book flights is the obvious use. The airline has come together with another Indian company called Ngpay, which has over a million mobile users. Huge growth in the mobile commerce sector service in India is something that Ngpay has been experiencing. With the Mobile Ticketing Solution, all air travel transactions including bookings, refunds, and even cancellations can be accomplished. of its original locations, however it has had to cut back some on international destinations due to the current economic climate. An announcement by the company states that it plans to resume flights to some of those cities soon.
